Media, chaired by Bruce Turkel, Executive Creative Director, Turkel, Schwartz and Partners.

  • Other chairs of this committee over the years have been Geri Donnelly, David Hume and Bill McFarland.
  • The original committee name was the General Public Information Task Force and over the years the name has been shortened to "the Media".
  • Early on, the print media played a major role in presenting The Coalition to the community, in calling the community to action and in describing our first campaigns - drug-free workplace, drug-free school zone, interfaith event, etc.
  • Since we had not yet created our own local television and radio spots, we joined forces with The Partnership For A Drug-Free America (PDFA).
  • Working with PDFA, and with the unparalleled suppport of our local television stations, South Florida has been the number one media market for the airing of anti-drug messages in the United States for five consecutive years.
  • Don Byer, Vice President PDFA, was introduced and praised for the fine work of the Partnership over the years.
  • There is a direct correlation between the number of media spots shown and the drug use of community residents.
  • The local media, air and print, deserve our on going appreciation for their true community concern and commitment.
